Jimenez Scores Lone Goal in NJIT’s 1-0 Win at St. Francis Brooklyn; Pujades Notches Shutout

BROOKLYN, NY--Sophomore Pablo Jimenez scored the lone goal in NJIT's 1-0 win at St. Francis Brooklyn and junior goalkeeper Victor Pujades notched his third shutout of the season in non-conference men's soccer action at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier - 5.

NJIT, which suffered its first loss at Drexel last weekend, bounced back to the win column with the 1-0 shutout over the Terriers, moving to 5-1-0 on the season while St. Francis Brooklyn drops to 2-5-0.

"Very difficult surface conditions with the type of turf and the rain adding slickness," head coach Barboto commented.  We suffered throughout the match and managed to defend and keep a strong St. Francis Brooklyn team at zero.  We countered and Pablo (Jimenez) dealt a great cross from Andy (Alvarez) and put us up a goal.  We held onto the lead in a tough away match."

Pujades notched his third shutout of the season, stopping six Terrier shots in the win.

Jimenez and Thomas Radon accounted for the two Highlander shots.  Radon's shot came in the 24th minute of action and Jimenez scored his second goal of the season in the 66th minute.

The goal, which came off a set piece, was a high ball served into the box by Andy Alvarez and tucked away by Jimenez for the 1-0 advantage.

The Terriers dominated offensively, outshooting the Highlanders 19-2 (6-2 shots on goal) and corner kicks 14-2.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday when the Highlanders host George Washington at Kean University East Campus Facility.  Kickoff is slated for 3pm.
