MERION STATION, PA—Saint Joseph's Justin Aungst pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout as the Hawks defeated NJIT, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Smithson Field.
Saint Joseph's (18-21) picked up an 8-1 win over the Highlanders on Saturday in Newark and shut down the Highlanders on Sunday, 3-0, behind a complete game shutout by Aungst.
The Hawks scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and plated a single run in the bottom of the fifth to secure to win.
Aungst, who improves to 2-8 on the season, pitched nine scoreless innings, allowing six hits while fanning five Highlander batters.
Three different Hawks – SS Matt Maul (2-for-3), RF Charlie Concannon (1-for-3) and CF Brendan Hueth (1-for-3) drove in a run each in the win. Hueth was the lone Hawk to score twice.

Jared Kacso (2-6) was credited with the loss, pitching 4.2 innings, letting up five hits and three runs while striking out a pair of Hawk batters. RHP
Johnny Malatesta pitched 2.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit while
Brian Sondergard held the Hawks scoreless and hitless in the eighth.

Jesse Uttendorfer went 2-for-4 while three Highlanders –

Tom Brady each went 1-for-4. 1B
Alex Burman registered his second double of the season, going 1-for-3.
The Highlanders, which conclude its non-conference portion of its schedule, will return to ASUN Conference action next weekend at Kennesaw State. NJIT will face the Owls on Friday at 4pm, Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 1pm.
