LORETTO, PA – NJIT men's volleyball swept EIVA opponent Saint Francis U on Friday 3-0.
Alvaro Gimeno and
Piotr Namiotko led the Highlanders (8-16, 5-9 EIVA) with 11 kills each.
Namiotko added a match-high eight digs along with teammate
Bailey Mundy.
Setter
Cameron Tait posted 26 assists and
Luca Berger notched a match-high five blocks.
For the Red Flash (8-20, 3-10 EIVA), Stephen Braswell made 11 kills and both Cole Carver and Hayden Herc produced three blocks each.
Joseph Koszelak and Brandon Buck each had seven digs, and Buck tallied 10 kills and Koszelak a match-high 34 assists.
In the first set, the Highlanders held a 21-13 lead, before Saint Francis scored five point to lessen the NJIT lead.
The Red Flash got within in 24-21, but Gimeno ended the set on a kill, 25-21.
The second set went into extra points, with the Highlanders scoring the last two points off another kill by Gimeno and a block by Tait and Berger winning 28-26.
In another close third set Saint Francis tied it up at 24-24 with a block by Braswell and Carver.
The Highlanders again grabbed the last two points of the set, with a kill by senior
Kevin Myren and a block by Gimeno and Berger getting the 26-24 win.
The Highlanders play their last regular season EIVA match tomorrow against Penn State at 7pm.
