NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team bounced back to the win column with a convincing, 6-1, victory over visiting Binghamton Sunday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders (5-2) swept the doubles point and picked up wins in five-out-of-six singles contests.
" The team played some of the best doubles of the year, enabling us to sweep all three," head coach
Ira Miller added after the win. "Tomi (Antoljak) and Lukas (Zvikas) played hard to pull out close matches. Abdallah (Foud), Zac (Castagna), and Richard (Rangga) were in control from the start. We're looking to carry this momentum into next week's tri-match at Yale."
NJIT pair
Jan Cimrman and
Abdullah Fouad teamed for a 6-3 victory at first doubles. Foud won by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1, at the fourth spot.
Highlander duo
Richard Rangga and
Lukas Zvikas combined for a 6-2 win at second doubles. Co-captain Rangga recorded a straight set victory at the sixth spot while Zvikas battled out a three-set victory at third singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Transfer
Tomi Antoljak and
Zac Castagna posted a 6-4 win at third doubles. Antoljak was a straight set winner, 6-1, 7-6 (5), at first singles while Castagna notched a straight set victory at the fifth spot, 6-1, 6-2.
NJIT will return to action on March 10-11 when the Highlanders travel to New Haven, CT. NJIT will face Yale at 12pm and Fairfield at 6pm on March 10 and play Marist on March 11 at 9am.
