ANNAPOLIS, MD—NJIT senior RHP
Sean Lubreski allowed one run over 6.0 innings in a 4-1 victory as the Highlanders split Sunday's twin bill at Navy with the Mids earning a 7-1 win in the nightcap to conclude the four-game series at Max Bishop Stadium.
Lubreski allowed just one earned run over 6.0 innings, striking out five Mid batters and letting up five hits to earn his first win of the 2018 season in the 4-1 win.
Johnny Malatesta picked up the save, pitching a scoreless and hitless seventh inning while striking out one batter to secure the win.
In the nightcap, Navy bounced back for a 7-1 victory, scoring a pair of runs in the third, single run in the sixth and producing four runs in the eighth.
Game One
NJIT 4, Navy 1 (Final)
Navy struck first in the bottom of the second on a single to center field by 1B Christian Hodges, sending home LF Evan Lowery, who doubled down the right field line to start the inning.
NJIT evened the score, 1-1, in the top of the fourth with two outs and a runner on third, as 3B
David Marcano doubled to left field, driving in 2B
Tom Brady, who started the inning off with a single to center field.
In the top of the sixth, NJIT sent home three runs with two outs, as C

Justin Etts with an RBI double down the right field line, giving the Highlanders a 2-1 lead. Etts reached first on a Mids throwing error.

Matthew Cocciadiferro drove in two runs in the three-run inning with a single to right field, scoring
David Marcano and Franzoni, for a 4-1 advantage.
Senior RHP

Navy's Andrew Sauer was credited with the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits, four runs (one earned), walking three batters while striking out four.
NJIT produced nine hits in the game, led by
David Marcano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Cocciadiferro drove in a pair of runs in the sixth for NJIT, as the sophomore finished 1-for-4 while Franzoni sent home the ensuing game-winning run with a double down the right field line, finishing 2-for-3.
Navy's LF Lowery was the only Mid with a multi-hit, going 2-for-3, including a double and a single. Hodge sent home the lone run for Navy in the bottom of the second on a single to center field.
Game Two
Navy 7, NJIT 1 (Final)
Navy scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third with two outs on a double to right center by Jacob Willamson, scoring Zach Biggers and Alex Smith for a 2-0 lead.
NJIT got on the board in the top of the fourth on an RBI ground out to third by
Matthew Cocciadiferro, scoring
Pat O'Hare who led off the inning with a single to center field.
Navy added a single run in the bottom of the sixth and four runs in the bottom of the eighth, on four hits, one Highlander error, extending its lead to 7-1.
The Mids Colin Brady (1-0), the second pitcher on the day, picked up the win, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing one run (earned), three hits while striking out three Highlanders. Jared Leins posted his first save of the season, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings.
NJIT's
Jared Kacso was credited with the loss, pitching 5.1 innings, letting up four hits, three runs (all earned) and striking out two batters. RHP
Tommy Derer pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and fanning two batters.
Navy's Lowery drove in three runs in the win, finishing 2-for-4 while Williamson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
CF
Michael Anastasia went 2-for-4, including a double while six different Highlanders were credited with one hit.
NJIT will return to action on March 10-11 when the Highlanders visit Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Maryland. The two teams were scheduled to meet earlier in the season but were cancelled due to snowfall in the Baltimore area.
