NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team improved to 8-4 on the season, blanking visiting Wagner, 7-0, Tuesday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT earned the doubles point with wins at the first and third spots while sweeping the singles contests for the 7-0 victory.
Head coach
Ira Miller commented after the win over Wagner: "Great to see everyone pull out the close matches and great to see all the regular starters back on the court."
NJIT duo
Jan Cimrman and
Abdullah Fouad teamed for a 6-3 win at first doubles. Cimrman, competing at the second spot, recorded a three-set victory over Anatoliy Lashkul 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Fouad won by identical scores at the fourth spot, 6-3, 6-3, topping Eric Poland.
Highlander pair
Tomi Antoljak and
Zac Castagna combined for a 7-6 (5) win at third doubles. Antoljake won in straight sets at first singles over Dylan Walters, 7-5, 6-1 while Castagna posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ilya Kneppelhout at the fifth spot.
At third singles,
Lukas Zvikas battled out a three-set tilt against Hans Ohrner, coming out on top, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Co-captain
Richard Rangga continued his strong play at sixth singles, recording a straight set victory, 7-6(0), 6-2, over Charlton Boyd.
NJIT, which is in a stretch of four home matches inside The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility, will begin ASUN Conference action on Saturday, March 24 against USC Upstate. The match is set to begin at 9am.
