ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—Marist used seven pitchers and pounded out 12 hits in the Red Foxes 9-5 win over visiting, NJIT, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action on the campus of Bard College Honey Field.
Marist (5-10) won its fourth straight game, taking an early 6-0 lead through two innings and added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth to secure the 9-5 win.
The Red Foxes, which pounded out 12 hits, were led by 1B Greg Kocinski, who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. C Gene Napolitano and 2B Anthony Lazer each went 2-for-4 in the win. Napolitan drove in a pair of RBI for the home team.
NJIT (8-8) were held to just five hits, led by 3B
David Marcano, who went 2-for-5 while three different Highlanders – DH

Alex Burman and C
Bryce Short each registered one hit.

Brett Lubreski (1-1), starting and taking the loss, pitching 1.0 innings, letting up four runs (all earned) and three hits. Relief pitchers LHP

John Saviano pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth. Saviano struck out two Red Foxes.
Marist took control of the game early, scoring four runs in the first and two in the second, for a 6-0 advantage.
Visiting NJIT scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth, slimming the Red Fox lead, 7-4. LF
Evan Pietronico drove home the first run of the game for NJIT in the third before SS
Justin Etts, who reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on Pietronico's RBI ground, took third on a wild pitch and stole home.
In the fourth, Short hit his first career RBI triple, scoring Burman, who singled to left field and with bases loaded, Short scored the Highlanders fourth run of the game on a wild pitch.
The Red Foxes added a single run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple to left center by Napolitano and an RBI single down the left field line by Napolitano in the sixth, for a 9-4 lead.
The Highlanders did not go away easily in the top of the ninth, as Etts walked and took second on a wild pitch. Pietronico walked as Etts went to third on a wild pitch, putting runners on the corner.
After a Marist pitching change, the Red Foxes recorded consecutive outs before
David Marcano hit an RBI single to shortstop, driving in the Highlanders fifth run of the game for a 9-5 score.
NJIT is scheduled for a three-game series at Villanova, beginning on Saturday with a 12pm doubleheader and a single-game on Sunday, starting at 1pm.
