NEWARK, NJ– Red-shirt junior Kelly Guarino scored 14 points on Senior Day, but it went for naught, as the NJIT dropped an ASUN Conference game to Stetson, 72-53, at the Wellness and Events Center Saturday afternoon.

The Highlanders fell to 3-22 overall and 1-9 in the ASUN. The Hatters improved to 15-11 overall and 6-4 in the ASUN.

The Highlanders had the most of the early action, leading by as many as five points in the first quarter and by six in the early stages of the second period, 21-15, after on a three-pointer by Guarino.

But the Hatters gained control of the game by outscoring the Highlanders, 18-8, in the second period to take a 33-26 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.

Stetson had three players score in double figures, led by freshman forward Michelle Pruitt, who scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.  Senior guard Brittney Chambers added 17 points and six rebounds and junior guard McKenna Beach added 13 points and five assists.

The Highlanders also received 13 points and six rebounds from red-shirt junior guard Tatianna Torres.
