NEWARK, NJ – After a tough three-game road trip, the Highlanders men's hockey team were looking to go into the Thanksgiving break in Conference action with a win.
Unfortunately, the Scranton Royals spoiled that wish with a commanding 11-2 win at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House. NJIT's overall record is at 6-9 and their Colonial States record is at 3-7.
Scranton took control of the contest in the 1
st period with the 1
st three goals (2 on the power play) in a more three and a quarter span. But, senior
Michael Barrera scored his 1
st goal of the season on the power play to cut the deficit to two goals. The Royals would take a 3-1 lead into the 1
st intermission.
Scranton continue to dominate as they reeled off four straight goals in the second to take an insurmountable 7-1 lead.
Michael Crincoli was able to get the Highlanders a second power play goal late in the period. The Royals had a 5-goal lead after two periods of play.
Scranton poured it on in the 3
rd period scoring another 4 goal period to get a very decisive 9-goal victory. The 11 goals were the most goals the Highlanders allowed all season and the 9-goal defeat is tied for the most in a loss.
Martin Paro made 24 saves and
Matthew Altomare made 16 saves in relief after replacing Paro midway in the 2
nd period.
