NEW YORK—The NJIT men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Columbia Invitational Friday evening at Dodge Center Fitness Center.
In a dual match, the Highlanders faced Johns Hopkins and host Columbia.
The NJIT men went 1-1 on the day, defeating Johns Hopkins, 19-8, and dropping a close decision to host Columbia, 15-12. The women went 0-2.
Freshman
Robert Hondor went undefeated on the day, combining for a 6-0 mark in epee competition.
Greg Puccio and
Thomas Slawinski picked up four wins on the saber strip, going 2-1 against both Columbia and Johns Hopkins.
Thomas Manley recorded a 4-2 mark on the foil strip, as the sophomore went undefeated against Johns Hopkins.
Freshman
Paloma Almodovar was the top performer for the NJIT women, notching a 4-2 mark on the foil strip. Almodovar was undefeated against Johns Hopkins.
The NJIT women, 4-4 on the season, will return to action on January 19 at the Philadelphia Invitational hosted by Penn.
The NJIT men, 1-1, on the young season, will return to action on November 18 at the MACFA A vs. C Tournament.
