PHILADELPHIA, PA – NJIT men's and women's fencing competed at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday.
The men's team went 3-2, defeating UNC 16-11, Haverford 17-9 and Sacred Heard 22-5 and falling to Duke and NYU.
The epee squad was the most successful on the day.
Brett Bogert posted a team high 12-3 record on the day, losing only to UNC.
Eduardo Ezcurra went 10-5 on the day and
Gal Gluhic finished with a 7-5 record.
Simon Rizell and
Thomas Manley were the Highlanders top performers on the foil strip, with Rizell grabbing a 9-5 record on the day and Manley going 6-3.
The women went 0-7 on the day, with close games against NYU losing 14-13 and NYU 15-12.
On the women's epee strip
Julia Garcia posted a team-best 14-2 overall record going undefeated against every team except UNC and teammate
Maria Sztan went 12-8.
Women's foil performers
Cristina Garcia Mendicino and
Jule Shigihara did well for NJIT, with Garcia Mendicino going 16-5 and Shigihara scoring a 15-6 record.
Next up for the Highlanders is the Eric Solle Invitational on February 3 hosted by Brandeis.
