DELAND, FL—The NJIT men's tennis team (7-11, 1-3 ASUN) fell to Stetson (13-4, 3-1 ASUN), 6-1, in ASUN Conference play, Thursday afternoon at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
In the singles competition, junior
Richard Rangga recorded the only victory on the afternoon for the Highlanders, defeating Coilin MacNamara, in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-1, at fifth singles.
Highlander duo
Zac Castagna and
Jot Sandhu fought hard at third doubles, but ultimately fell to Stetson's Coilin MacNamara and Graham Ball, by a score of 6-3.
Stetson would go on to take the doubles point, as NJIT's
Aleksa Petrovic and
Jan Cimrman dropped a 6-3 decision to Stetson's Loic Blanco and Colter Decoste at first doubles.
Castagna turned in a strong effort in his singles match, but was topped by Stetson's William Shkrob in a hard-fought straight-set match, 7-5, 6-3 at fourth singles.
Sophomore
Pablo Arrutia also fell in straight-sets, to Stetson's Colter Decoste, 6-3, 6-4, at the sixth spot.
NJIT will continue its two-match Florida trip on Saturday, April 8, when the Highlanders travel to Jacksonville, FL to take on North Florida in ASUN Conference action. The match will begin at 3 pm.
