Box Score

NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team (7-9, 1-2 ASUN) earned its first ASUN Conference win, edging visiting FGCU (6-10, 2-2 ASUN), Saturday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility to conclude the home portion of the 2017 schedule.

"Our best doubles of the year," head coach Ira Miller added after the win. "Jan (Cimrman) and Aleksa (Petrovic) came back from 4-1 down to clinch the doubles point in the tiebreaker. Lukas (Zvikas) was outstanding, coming back from a set down, same for Zac (Castagna) who held off a match point to clinch the match for us. Jan came off the injured last to play his best match of the year.  All of the starters contributed to the four victorious points."

Highlander duo Aleksa Petrovic and Jan Cimrman earned a doubles victory over FGCU's Oliver Landert and Felipe Ramirez, 7-6 (1) at first doubles.

NJIT would go on to take the doubles point, as Highlander tandem Richard Rangga and Pablo Arrutia defeated Andres Alfonzo and Ezequiel Cerrini, 6-1, at second doubles.

In the singles competition, sophomore Lukas Zvikas defeated Mateo Ruiz in a thrilling three-set match, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, at third singles.

Jan Cimrman continued his strong play on the afternoon, defeating FGCU's Oliver Landert, by identical scores, 6-4, 6-4, at the second spot.

After dropping the first set, sophomore Zac Castagna rallied past Andres Alfonzo, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3, to earn to victory.

NJIT will return to the court on Sunday, April 2, when the Highlanders travel to Queens, NY to take on St. John's in a non-conference match-up.  The match will begin at 11 am
