NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team (6-8, 0-2 ASUN) fell to visiting Kennesaw State (10-5, 2-0 ASUN) by a score of 6-1, Saturday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
"The boys battled hard and played one of their best matches of the year against a seasoned Kennesaw State team," head coach
Ira Miller added. "The positive results will come with this type of effort."
Highlander duo
Lukas Zvikas and
Zac Castagna fought hard at first doubles but were unable to secure the victory as they fell to Kennesaw State's Lucas deTorres Curth and Simon Pritchard by a score of 7-6 (7-3).
Kennesaw State would go on to secure the doubles point, as David Durham and Drew Wendel defeated NJIT's
Aleksa Petrovic and
Jot Sandhu, 6-3 at second doubles.
Highlander sophomore
Lukas Zvikas tallied the only victory on the afternoon for NJIT, defeating Sam Slade of Kennesaw State in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, at second singles.
Zac Castagna fought hard in his singles match, but ultimately fell to Kennesaw State's Fermin Calvo Barcelo in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, at third singles.
NJIT will look to rebound from its two-match skid on Sunday, March 26, as the Highlanders travel to University Park, PA to take on Penn State, beginning at 4 pm.
