NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team (6-7, 0-1 ASUN) dropped a 6-1 decision to visiting Lipscomb (5-7, 1-0 ASUN) in its ASUN Conference opener, Thursday evening at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT's
Pablo Arrutia and
Richard Rangga earned a doubles victory in the third spot, defeating Lipscomb's Daniel Cardena and Jorge Ortega by a score of 7-6 (7).
The Highlanders would drop the remaining two doubles matches, giving Lipscomb the doubles point on the evening.
Highlander Freshman
Aleksa Petrovic took the first set in his singles match, but ultimately fell to Lipscomb's Rob Mitchell, who rallied back for the three-set win, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 at first singles.
Richard Rangga carried his fine play on the evening into the singles portion, defeating Jorge Ortega in three sets, 7-6 (1), 4-6, (13-11) at fifth singles for the Highlanders' only singles victory of the evening.
NJIT will look to bounce back Saturday, March 25, when the Highlanders welcome Kennesaw State to the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. The match will begin at 2 pm.
