INDIANAPOLIS, IN – NJIT men's fencers
Eduardo Ezcurra and
Simon Rizell wrapped up competition at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Notre Dame Friday held at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The men's fencing rounds 4-5 were completed Friday with NJIT's Ezcurra finishing in 20
th in the men's epee competition and Rizell 22
nd in men's foil.
Ezcurra posted a 9-23 overall record, picking up four more wins in the final two rounds. Ezcurra defeated St. John's fencers Cooper Schumacher and Yevgeniy Karyuchenko and posted wins against Isaac Shelanski of Yale and Ehan Grab of Boston College.
Rizell notched a 5-23 overall record, with no wins in the fourth or fifth rounds. St. John's swept the men's epee and foil championships with Cooper Schumacher winning epee and Andras Nemeth winning foil, while Harvard's Eli Dershwitz won saber.
The championships will continue with the women on Saturday and Sunday which will feature Highlander
Julia Garcia.
