INDIANAPOLIS, IN – NJIT men's fencers
Eduardo Ezcurra and
Simon Rizell completed day one at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships held at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Thursday hosted by Notre Dame.
The men's rounds, 1-3 were played on Thursday morning, with Ezcurra finishing his day sitting in 16
th on the epee strip and Rizell in 21
st on the foil strip.
Rizell, the Highlanders junior, was 5-for-15 on the day, going 2-0 against Duke's Eoin Gronningsater and Jonathan Schwartzman and picked up wins against Stanford's Darren Mei, Princeton's Samuel Barmann and NYU's Sean Grant.
Junior Ezcurra went 5-for-11 with two wins over Stanford, defeating Sean Stron and Tristan Krueger, NYU's Hans Engel, Duke's Bryn Hammarberg and Columbia's Porter Hesslegrave.
The championships will continue on Friday, with rounds 4-5 concluding in the morning and the men's semifinals and championship bouts taking place Friday afternoon.
The women's rounds will begin on Saturday March 25, which will feature Highlander
Julia Garcia.
