Highlanders Try for Another Late Game Comeback; Fall 10-7 to Mercer

– The NJIT men's lacrosse team fell 10-7 to Mercer on Friday night in another late game comeback at Drew University's Ranger Stadium.

Leading the Highlanders (0-6) was Aaron Forster who recorded a hat-trick and Ryan Callaghan with two goals and an assist. Ryan Darrow and Mathew Sanchez added a goal each and Ryan Kaden and Matt Brown each tallied an assist.

Tyler Stevenson went 8-for-15 on the faceoff circle, which is a new career-high for the sophomore

In his first career start, Cameron Cronk accumulated a career-high 14 saves for NJIT.

For the Bears (2-3) eight different players posted goals, with Chris Rahill and Pascal Coombs producing a team-high two each. Matt Quinn notched a team-high three points on a goal and two assists.

Bradley Hodoval made nine saves in his second win of the season.

Mercer dominated the first quarter scoring six unanswered goals with a 6-0 lead.

After the first quarter, the Highlanders outscored their opponents 7-4.

At 11:55 in the second quarter, NJIT scored their first goal with a nice behind the back shot from sophomore Forster at the top of the crease from senior Callaghan.

Thirty seconds later Callaghan added a goal of his own off a pass from Matt Brown, making the Highlander comeback.

Freshman Sanchez added a man-up goal to cut the Bear lead to three, but Mercer's Jack Nelson added another goal to make the score 7-3 going into halftime.

Forster added two more goals in the third, however so did Mercer, extending their lead 10-5 going into the fourth quarter.

After gaining three points tonight, attackman Forster needs one more point to become the Highlanders all-time points leader. Forster currently has 39 points on 25 career goal and 14 assists.

Callaghan and Darrow added two more goals for the Highlanders in the fourth, for the final 10-7 score.

The Highlanders travel to #11 Army on Monday for a 3pm game at Michie Stadium.
