CAMBRIDGE, MA - The men's and women's fencing teams competed at the Eric Sollee Invitational on Sunday at the Johnson Athletics Center.
The Highlander men went 5-0 gaining wins over Brown (21-6), Yeshiva (25-2), Hunter (24-3), Boston College (19-8) and Brandeis (16-11).
The NJIT women posted a 2-3 record on the day with only six of their nine fencers competing. The Highlanders earned wins against Yeshiva (15-12) and Hunter (17-10) but fell to Brown (11-16), Boston College (7-20), and Brandeis (5-22).
Simon Rizell went 15-0 on the foil strip, gaining three wins apiece from each team the Highlanders faced.
Also on foil,
David Kong posted a 11-1 record, with his only loss coming against Yeshiva.
On the epee strip,
Ryan Hrapsky notched a 7-0 overall record while
Eduardo Ezcurra fenced for 13 wins and only lost twice.
Foilst
Thomas Slawinski went 13-2 on the day and teammate
Cole Degeorges went 11-4.
On the women's side
Jule Shigihara recorded 13 wins and only one loss against Brown on the foil strip.
Maria Sztan went 9-4 on the epee strip with 3-0 wins over both Brown and Yeshiva.
Next up for women's fencing is the Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational on February 11, and the men compete at the MACFAÂ B Round Robin held at Stevens on February 12.
