PRINCETON, NJ – The NJIT men's lacrosse team was topped by Princeton 22-8 on Saturday afternoon at Sherrerd Field.
The win for the Tigers is their first of 2017, while the Highlanders drop to 0-2.
Ryan Darrow led NJIT with three points (2g, 1a), followed by two goals from
Ryan Kaden and
Jacob Sieber.
Matt Brown also collected two assists of his own.
For Princeton Michael Sowers had a game-high seven points with two goals and five assists. Zach Currier and captain Gavin McBride added six of their
own, Currier with four goals and two assists and McBride with three of each.
NJIT scored one goal in each of the first two periods, with
Ryan Callaghan notching his second goal of the year, and a man-up goal from Darrow.
After coming out of the first half down 12-2, the Highlanders scored four goals in the third.
Sophomore Sieber started NJIT's scoring, off a pass from Darrow followed by another Darrow goal, his second of the game.
Freshman Kaden and
John Tachon tacked on two more goals for the Highlanders in the last 15 seconds of the period. Freshman defenseman Tachon also grabbed a team-high five ground balls.
Sieber and Kaden tallied two more goals apiece in the fourth period, but the Highlanders couldn't make the comeback and the final score ended 22-8.
Nick Marzullo made eight saves in the loss, and
Cameron Cronk posted one save in relief. The Tigers Tyler Blaisdell collected five saves in 30 minutes and teammate Jon Levine made six.
The Highlanders head to Lexington, VA next Saturday to take on VMI for a 12pm game.
