BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton's (6-4) red-shirt junior guard Jasmine Sina led the way in scoring with 15 points, shooting 5-for-9 from three-point range, as she guided the Bearcats to a 67-36 win over the Highlanders (0-10) Sunday afternoon.
Senior center Alyssa James was second in scoring for the Bearcats with 14 points. The nation's leader in blocks also recorded four on the afternoon.
The first quarter saw Binghamton storm out of the gate to a 10-2 lead before NJIT took a timeout with 7:34 remaining in the quarter. After the timeout, the Highlanders went on a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 11-10 with 2:15 remaining in the quarter.
The 9-0 run was highlighted by red-shirt junior guard Kelly Guarino's first three-point basket of the season. The Bearcats would close out the quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 17-13 lead.
The Bearcats took control of the second quarter with a 10-0 run to start. The Highlanders didn't register their first basket until 5:34 remaining in the quarter. Freshman guard Ellyn Stoll hit two free-throws to cut the lead for Binghamton to 27-15. The Bearcats finished the half with a 37-22 lead.
Stoll led the way for the Highlanders with seven points in the first half. Binghamton's Kai Moon and Alyssa James each had seven points in the half.
The visiting Highlanders were outscored 30-14 in the second half.
The Bearcats finished with three double-digit scorers. Joining Sina and James was senior guard Imani Watkins, who scored 10 points (4-for-14 from the field).
NJIT finished the day 14-for-59 (23.7%) from the field and 5-for-23 (21.7%) from three-point range. The Bearcats shots 43.1% from the field (25-58) while shooting 10-for-28 from three-point range (35.7%). Binghamton scored 24 points off turnovers compared to NJIT who just scored eight points off turnovers.
Stoll finished the game as the leading scorer for NJIT with 11 points. Red-shirt sophomore Jillian Libby set a new career-high with nine rebounds. Her previous career high was eight against Wagner on November 12, 2016.
NJIT is back in action on Monday night when they return home to play St. Joseph's College Brooklyn (4-4) of the Skyline Conference. Opening tip from The WEC is set for 7 p.m.
