COLUMBUS, OH – NJIT men's and women's fencing competed in the Elite Penn Invitational over the weekend hosted by Ohio State.
The Highlander men went 2-4 on the day defeating Air Force 17-10 and Cleveland State 25-2, but falling to UPenn (10-17), Ohio State (6-21), North Carolina (11-16), and Princeton (8-19).
Henrique Marques posted a 10-4 record on the foil strip and Brett Bogert went 12-5 on the epee strip.
NJIT women notched a 1-6 record with a 22-5 win over Cleveland State, and losses against UPenn (5-22), Cornell (9-18), host Ohio State (4-23), North Carolina (10-17), Air Force (12-15) and Northwestern (11-16).
Julia Garcia was the only fencer on either side to win against every team, going undefeated against UPenn, Air Force, Northwestern and Cleveland State and tallying a 15-3 overall record on the day on the epee strip.
The Highlanders will both compete in the Columbia Invitational on November 17, starting at 5pm.
