NEW YORK –
Julia Garcia went undefeated at the Columbia Invitational that both NJIT men's and women's fencing competed in on Friday night.
The women went 1-1 at the invitational, falling to Columbia but posting their best result against them since participating in the meet in 2012. The Highlanders went on to defeat FDU 15-21.
Senior Garcia led the women going 3-0 against Columbia and 2-0 against FDU on the epee strip.
Cristina Garcia Mendicino tallied a 5-1 record on the day in women's foil and Amanda Soliman posted a 3-2 record on the saber strip.
The men's team lost to host Columbia, reigning 2015 and 2016 National Champions 16-11, and defeated Hunter 21-6.
The men's epee team defeated Columbia 6-3 and Hunter 9-0.
Eduardo Ezcurra and
Gal Gluhic each posted 5-1 records on the day.
Men's fencing will participate in the MACFA vs B on Sunday hosted by Hunter at 8:30am. The women will take a break until the after the New Year, competing at the Philadelphia Invitational.
