Stetson Pulls Out Thrilling Five Set Victory Over NJIT


DELAND, FL – Three Highlanders registered double-digit kills paced by senior Tess Albyn's match-best 20 kills but the Hatters rallied back, trailing 2-1, for a thrilling 3-2 victory over NJIT Friday evening in ASUN Conference women's volleyball action.

The Highlanders (9-10, 1-3 ASUN) were led by seniors Albyn and Mikalah Hughes who combined for 39 kills.

In addition to Albyn's match-high 20 kills, Hughes combined for 19 and Madi Busler produced a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs.  Her four service aces was a match-best.

Setter Liz Benson recorded a match-high 57 assists and junior libero Adriana Nieto notched 20 digs.

In Stetson's (2-14, 1-3 ASUN) first ASUN win, Hao Jin led the team in kills (15) and blocks (7), with Naina Ivanova recording 45 assists and Cheicie Spence posting 20 digs.

The Hatters won the first set 25-20, and the Highlanders worked their way back to win the next two sets 25-23 and 25-19.

The Highlanders grabbed the victory in the second set scoring the last three points, coming on a kill and service ace by Busler and a kill by Benson.

Stetson battled back and took the fourth set, 25-21 forcing a fifth and deciding set.  The Hatters secured its first ASUN win with a 15-7 victory.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday evening when the Highlanders visit FGCU at 6pm.
