FORT MYERS, FL—FGCU swept visiting NJIT, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Alico Arena in ASUN Conference women's volleyball action.
The Eagles won its third straight match, improving to 12-6 overall, 4-1 in the conference while the visiting Highlanders, who went a thrilling five-sets Friday evening at Stetson, drop to 9-11 overall, 1-4 in the ASUN.
The Eagles swept NJIT by a score: 25-12, 25-20 and 25-17.
FGCU's Amanda Carroll notched a double-double, combining for 15 kills and 11 digs while Cortney Vanliew followed with 11 kills. FGCU's Kaitlan Krivdo notched an impressive .538 hitting percentage, posting seven kills on 13 swings with no errors while Snowy Burnam hit an impressive .409, registering nine kills on 22 attempts and no errors.
Maggie Rick just missed posting a double-double, notching 39 assists and nine digs while libero Karissa Rhoades notched 13 digs.
Krivdo and Danielle Serrano led the Eagles with four block assists.
The visiting Highlanders were led by
Madi Busler, who posted nine kills and nine digs in the loss. Senior
Tess Albyn, coming off a 20-kill performance against Stetson, registered seven kills followed by
Iva Mandic (6),
Liz Benson (5) and
Mikalah Hughes (5).
Benson, the Highlanders setter, registered 25 assists and added seven digs while co-captain
Adriana Nieto recorded 11 digs. Benson added seven digs.
In front of the net for the Highlanders, Hughes registered four total blocks (three assists, one solo).
NJIT will return to action on Tuesday at 7pm, hosting non-conference opponent Delaware State in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
