NEWARK, NJ—Carlyle Nusbaum and Lauren Anderson combined for 25 kills, leading visiting Lipscomb to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) straight set sweep over NJIT Sunday afternoon in ASUN Women's Volleyball action at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
Lipscomb, winners of the last five out of six matches, improves to 6-4 in the ASUN, 13-10 overall while the Highlanders fall to 1-9 in the ASUN, 11-16 overall.
Nusbaum paced the match with 14 kills and just missed notching a double-double with nine digs. Anderson was the other Bison with double-digit kills with 11, including eight digs.
Middle Maddie Phillips hit .467 for the match, combining for eight kills on 15 attempts and just one error.
Setter Morgan Elmore paced the match with 40 assists as Nusbaum led the match with nine digs. In addition to Nusbaum's nine digs, Anderson, Elmore and Ashley Maher each recorded eight digs.
In front of the net, Phillips, Ca'Layci Coffey and Chloe Rogers combined for four block assists.
NJIT senior
Tess Albyn led the way for the Highlanders with nine kills followed by
Madi Busler with eight kills and eight digs.
Sophomore setter
Liz Benson notched 24 assists and six digs while libero
Adriana Nieto and Busler posted eight digs apiece.
Defensively, senior
Mikalah Hughes,
Iva Mandic and
Jovana Baosic combined for three block assists each.
NJIT will close out the home portion of its schedule next weekend, hosting FGCU on Friday at 7pm and Stetson on Sunday at 1pm. NJIT will honors its graduating seniors Albyn, Hughes,
Alyssa Armada and
Adrianne Bynoe in pregame ceremonies on Sunday.
