NEWARK, NJ – NJIT men's swimming and diving collected their first win against Mount St. Mary's and lost to Saint Peter's in a tri-meet between the teams on Saturday morning.
The Highlanders (1-2) defeated The Mount 135-70 and fell to the Peacocks 110-95.
NJIT posted three first place finishes and notched either first, second or third in 10 events.
In the 800 free relay 
Jake Haefner, 
JT Morehead, 
Jack Matusiak and 
Matheus Monteiro Montarroyos grabbed first place swimming in 7:25.27.
Sophomore 
Nicholas Lyons, one of two Highlanders grabbing first place in an individual event, tallied a win in the 100 breast with a time of 59.52.
The Highlanders finished one, two, three in the 50 free, with senior Matusiak taking the lead coming in at 22.42, followed by Lyons and 
Tyler Pollock. Lyons out touched fellow sophomore Pollock by .01 of a second, finishing 22.55 and 22.56 respectively.
Matusiak also picked up a third place finish in the 100 free (49.69).
Freshman 
Mattheau Bonner grabbed two second place wins, in the 200 free (1:49) and the 100 fly (53.67).
In the 500 free freshman Morehead and Montarroyos placed second and third and in the 1000 free Montarroyos came in second and Morehead third.
The Highlanders came in second in the 200 medley relay with help from 
Scott Quirie, Lyons, Bonner and Pollock swimming in 1:39.34.
Senior Quirie also pick up second in the 100 back coming in at 55.51.
NJIT next swims against UMass on October 22 at 1pm.
