FORT MYERS, FL—Florida Gulf Coast rolled to its 14
th consecutive win, as the Eagles took down NJIT in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17 Friday night in ASUN Conference women's volleyball action at Alico Arena.
FGCU raised its overall record to 15-2 to go with a 2-0 ASUN mark following Friday night's win over NJIT (8-10, 0-2 ASUN).
The Eagles finished with a team hitting percentage of .278 (40 kills, 15 errors, 90 attempts) to go with a 9-5 edge in service ace advantage.
Leigh Pudwill led FGCU in kills (10) and recorded eight digs. She had a .273 hitting percentage with four errors in 22 swings. Karissa Rhoades followed with nine kills while Giovanna Borgiotti posted six.
Setter Maggie Rick recorded a match-best 31 assists for the Eagles. Libero Courtney Stephens posted a match-high nine digs followed by Pudwill (8) and Borgiotti (5). Marlene Moeller led the team with three block assists.
The Eagles held a 9-to-5 service ace advantage, paced by Rhoades with a match-best four aces followed by three from Stephens. NJIT's
Anna Rodrigues led the Highlanders with two aces.
Although the visiting Highlanders were unable to take a set Friday night, they managed 29 kills, led by senior
Katarzyna Klocek's eight.
Weronika Wiezik and
Tess Albyn each notched five kills.
Highlander setter Rodrigues finished with 23 assists, four digs, three kills and two aces. Libero

Olivia Welsch notched seven digs apiece for the Highlanders.
NJIT, which held a 6-to-4 team blocking advantage at the net, was led by,
Mikalah Hughes, who combined for five block assists followed by three block from Klocek.
Florida Gulf Coast took a 10-5 lead in the opening set and never trailed again. In fact, the Highlanders got as close as one, 16-17, after a kill by Wiezik. The Eagles used an 8-4 run to take the first frame, 25-20.
The second set was played close throughout until the Eagles scored eight straight, extending the lead to five, 19-14. The visitors fought back, knotting the set four times, the final at 23 on a kill by NJIT's Wiezik. FGCU went on to score the final two points, taking a 25-23 victory to go up, 2-0.
In the third set, FGCU jumped out to a 16-11 lead and later pushed its advantage to 21-13 as the Eagles scored the final three points of the set for a 25-17 victory.
NJIT will have a quick turnaround and travel to DeLand, Florida Friday night and take on Stetson on Saturday at 3pm.
