NEW ROCHELLE, NY—Visiting NJIT dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 20-16) decision at Iona Tuesday evening in non-conference women's volleyball action at Hynes Center.
Iona, which won in straight sets Tuesday, snaps a six-match skid, improving to 2-14 overall while the Highlanders, 8-9, drop its second straight match.
The Gaels had two players reach double-digit kills led by Claire Archibad, who recorded an impressive .469 hitting percentage with 16 kill on 32 swings and just one error in the victory. The other player for Iona to reach double-digit kills was Mia Bonsignore with 11.
Iona used two setters – Emma Rose and Kait Ferretti, who piled up 21 and 17 assists respectively in the win.
Libero Jessica Paolucci led the match with 17 digs and Karly White paced the Gaels in front of the next with three total blocks (1 solo, 2 assists).
The Gaels held a 9-1 advantage in service aces, paced by three from Tess Connolly. The Highlanders lone ace was recorded by sophomore libero
Adriana Nieto.
Visiting NJIT was led by senior
Weronika Wiezik, recording eight kills and seven digs.
Junior setter
Anna Rodrigues posted her 11
th match, posting double-figure assists with 21 and added three kills on eight swings for a .375 hitting percentage.
Nieto paced the Highlander defense with a team-best 12 digs while Wiezik and
Mikalah Hughes each notched three block assists.
NJIT will return to ASUN Conference play on September 30 at Florida Gulf Coast at 6pm and then visit Stetson on October 1 at 3pm.
