Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Temple

PHILADELPHIA – Women's soccer dropped their fourth in a row with a 2-0 loss to Temple on Sunday at the Temple Sports Complex.

Despite being uable to score a goal in the game, the Highlanders (4-4-2) outshot the Owls (3-6) 15-10.

Sophomores Arianna Gerber and Noelle Batista each posted four shots for NJIT. Gerber made a team-high two shots on goal, and all of Batista's four shots came in the first half, and from outside the 18 yard box.

Temple struck first and early with a goal by Cydney Niedermeyer on a free kick from 25 yards out.

The Owls put on the pressure early on but the Highlanders outshot Temple 8-5 in the first half with some great opportunities.

The Highlanders best look in the first half came when Neema Liverpool got the ball with her back to the net, turned and shot but was blocked, Carly Berdan got her rebound and turned to shoot but Owl keeper Jordan Nash was right there to make the great save to keep the Highlanders off the board.

Later on, Berdan made a run down the right side by herself and crossed the ball to Liverpool waiting in the box. Liverpool tried to settle Berdan's cross took and touch and shot, but was blocked by the Owl defense.

Temple scored early again in the second half. In the 50th minute, when Morgan Morocco headed the ball into the goal off a corner kick from Kayla Cunningham.

NJIT had opportunities in the second half too. Alex Gilgorri took a corner kick and served it into the box finding Arianna Gerber's head but was cleared by the Owls defense.

Just about a minute later the Highlanders were issued another corner taken by Gilgorri, this  time Emily Heckman was able to get a head on the ball but it was again blocked and kicked away by Temple.

Gilgorri had a free kick in the 72nd minute, after a scramble in the box Berdan tried to head it into the net, but was stopped by the Owls on the goal line.

For her first start this season Amelia Sapirman collected four saves in the loss, and for Temple Nash tallied seven for the Owls.

The Highlanders will open up ASUN play when they travel to Spartanburg, SC for a 1pm game on September 24 against USC Upstate.
