MADISON, NJ – Sometimes the statistics and the score don't align, Despite losing 14-5 loss to Manhattan on Saturday, the NJIT men's lacrosse team outshot the Jaspers 55-31 in Ranger Stadium at Drew University.
NJIT also went 17-19 I clear attempts and grabbed 27 ground balls to the Jaspers 20.
The Highlanders (1-11) got goals from four different scorers, and three of their goals were man up goals.
Tyler Baggett tallied two points for NJIT with a goal and an assist, while
Jesse Rice,
Matt Brown,
Ryan Callaghan and
Joe Lomeli each had a goal in the loss.
Ryan Bradway also added an assist.
The Jaspers (2-9) were led by five different goal scorers, including goal keeper Michael Zingaro.
Manhattan freshman Parker Giarratana recorded a game-high five goals, while Conor Darby and Cole Johnson each added their own hat tricks. Matt Garvey added two goals and three assists for Manhattan.
The Highlanders went down 0-6 before Rice put them on the board at 4:31 in the second quarter on a pass from Bradway.
Sophomore Bagget would add on another for NJIT right before the half ended to put the Highlanders within five, 7-2.
Freshman Brown would score NJIT's only goal of the third period, his third of the season.
Callaghan and Lomeli each had man-up goals to start the fourth quarter for the Highlanders but the Jasper's added on four more goals to come to the final 14-5 score.
NJIT's
Nick Marzullo tallied seven saves and six ground balls in the loss.
Along with his goal, Manhattan keeper Zingaro recorded 21 saves to earn his second win of the season.
The Highlanders take a 10-day break before hosting Lafayette on Tuesday, April 12 at Drew University for a night game at 7pm.
