Princeton Tops Highlanders; Markus Schultz Picks Up Lone Win for NJIT

Box Score

PRINCETON, NJ—Senior Markus Schultz picked up NJIT's lone win of the match, as Princeton recorded a 6-1 victory over the visiting Highlanders Sunday morning at Jadwin Gym.

The Tigers won their fourth consecutive match, improving to 4-2, while the Highlanders, who upset No. 10 University of Buffalo, 4-3, in a tight match Saturday, are now 1-1 on the season.

NJIT's Schultz and Princeton's Diego Vivies went the distance at the first spot.  Schultz dropped the first set, 4-6, but bounced back in the second frame, 6-4, and went on to win the third set tiebreaker, 10-7, for the Highlanders only win.

Sophomore Jan Cimrman battled out a three-set tilt at third singles against Alex Day, who is ranked No. 98 in the nation.  Day won the first set, 6-3, while NJIT's Cimrman evened the match with a 6-4 victory in the second frame. Princeton's Day went on to win, 7-6, in the third set tiebreaker.

NJIT will return to action on Saturday at 5pm when the Highlanders host Concordia (NY) in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
