PHOENIX—Junior
Jabarry Goodridge recorded a season-best 22 kills for NJIT, but the Highlanders dropped their second 3-1 decision in two days at Grand Canyon Saturday evening at Antelope Gymnasium.
Grand Canyon (7-3) won its third straight match, capturing the four-set match over the Highlanders in close sets, 25-23, 25-18, 24-26 and 29-27.
The Antelopes were led by Gerrard Lipscombe's team-high 17 kills, four aces, four digs and three block assists. Christian Ward followed with 10 kills on 13 swings with just one error for an impressive .692 hitting percentage.
Setter Michael Milstein was credited with a match-best 50 assists, while adding six digs and two block assists. Sky Engleman led the Antelopes defensively, recording nine digs.
As a team, the Antelopes posted 12.5 team blocks led by Ward (7), Schwob (4), Ashton King (3) and Shalev Saada and Milstein (2). The home team held a 9-3 service ace advantage, paced by Saad and Lipscombe with four aces apiece.
NJIT (0-7) got a season-best 22 kills from junior
Jabarry Goodridge followed by
TJ Jurko (12) and
Luke Robbe (11). Goodridge finished with a .378 hitting percentage ,while Robbe hit .333. Middle
Kevin Myren hit identical to Robbe, combining for five kills on 12 swings with one error.
The Highlanders used two setters Saturday –
Cameron Tait and
Ricardo Whitaker. Tait piled up 29 assists and six digs while Whitaker added 15 assists and four digs.
Freshman libero
Chris Wise led the Highlanders defensively with eight digs while three Highlanders – Robbe,
Raymond Kowalski and Myren added three block assists.
NJIT will break for six days and return to action on February 13 when the Highlanders host No. 3 BYU at 7:30 pm in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
