Box ScoreNEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team returned to the win column with a, convincing 6-1 victory over visiting Fairfield Saturday afternoon in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (3-2) swept the doubles contests and won five out of six singles contests to earn the victory. Fairfield (2-4) recorded one point, coming at second singles, in a three-set tilt.
Doubles duo
Markus Schultz and
Arnaud Holl combined for a 6-2 victory at first doubles. Schultz won in straight sets at first singles, 6-1, 6-4, defeating Brad Olhan from Fairfield. Holl picked up a win at the fourth spot, defeating Anthony Caputo, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
NJIT pair
Jan Cimrman and
Andres Alban were 6-2 winners at second doubles. Alban was a straight set winner at third singles, 6-0, 6-4, topping Jeff Rodger.
At third doubles,
Richard Rangga and
Lukas Zvikas posted a 7-6 (5) victory for the Highlanders. Zvikas went the distance at the fifth spot with Fairfield's Dylan Appel. Appel took the first frame, 6-1, but NJIT's Zvikas followed up with a 6-1, 10-5 victory. Teammate Rangga won at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-4 against Gabe Pamich.
NJIT will return to action on Sunday when the Highlanders host Fairleigh Dickinson at 12 Noon.
