EMMERSON, GA—NJIT scored a run in every inning but one, picking up its first win of the 2016 season, 12-2 over Point (GA) in an 7-inning contest Sunday morning in the final game of the Perfect Game Tournament.
NJIT sophomore right-hander
Sean Lubreski (1-0), who ranked tied for second on the team in wins last season with (5), picked up the win Sunday, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and one run. Classmate
Tommy Derer pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run.
The Highlanders, who combined for 16 hits, were paced by LF
Evan Pietronico, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, RF
Matt McKinnon's 3-for-5 performance and 2B
Tom Brady, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Point's Luis Florentino (0-3) took the loss, pitching 2.0 innings, giving up six hits and five runs. The Skyhawks used six pitchers to close out the game. Point's most effective pitcher – Payne Kosobucki, the Skyhawks fifth pitcher, pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
NJIT built a 5-0 lead through the first two innings and added two more in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 10-0 lead.
Point got on the board in the sixth, scoring twice, while the Highlanders added a run in the six and seventh.
NJIT will travel to Virginia for a four-game series this weekend at Norfolk State. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1pm and first pitch on Sunday will start at 12Noon.
