Box ScoreNEWARK, NJ—The NJIT men's tennis team edged Concordia (NY), ranked #8 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings in Division II and sophomore
Richard Rangga clinched the match for the Highlanders, who edged the visiting Clippers, 4-3, at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility Saturday.
NJIT (2-1) won the doubles point by taking two out of three matches and picked up three wins in singles competition at the second, third and sixth spot.
"Great win against the No. 8 team in the country for Division II," Coach
Ira Miller commented after the match. "Our doubles teams played their best matches of the year and Richard (Rangga) closed it out nicely in singles for the team."
Senior Highlander duo
Markus Schultz and
Arnaud Holl won 6-2 at first doubles, defeating Jui Mao and Ofir Ginat.
Rangga and
Lukas Zvikas picked up a 6-4 decision at third doubles, topping Luca Corigliano and Lorenzo Montegiorgi. Rangga clinched the match for the Highlanders at the sixth spot, taking Corigliano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Andres Alban was victorious at the third spot for the Highlanders, recording a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Ginat.
Sophomore
Jan Cimrman battled out a three-set tilt at second singles, combining for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Montegiorgi.
NJIT will return to action on February 19 when the Highlanders visit St. John's at 12 pm.
