NEWARK, NJ—Junior Imani Watkins scored a game-best 25 points leading, Binghamton to a 68-44 victory over NJIT Tuesday evening in women's basketball non-conference action at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
Binghamton won its second straight game improving to 3-5 on the season while the Highlanders dropped to 3-6 overall.
Watkins, who entered the game ranked seventh in the nation in scoring, finished with her seventh 20+ game, netting 25 points, five steals, four rebounds and two blocks. She went 9-for-16 from the field and 5-of-10 from three-point range.
The Bearcats other double-figure scorer on the night was center Alyssa James, who finished with 10 points, four rebounds two assists and two steals in the win.
NJIT was paced by senior guard
Alana Dudley with18 points while
Jordan Ireland came off the bench to score six on 2-of-4 shooting from downtown.
Tatianna Torres led the game with 11 rebounds, a new career high for the redshirt sophomore, as the Highlanders outrebounded the Bearcats, 50-39.
Kelly Guarino added five points, six rebounds and steals for NJIT.
The game was played close in the first quarter, with the Bearcats holding an 18-11 advantage.
Binghamton held the Highlanders to just 12 points over the next two quarters, extending its lead to 45-23 and never looked back, cruising to a 68-44 victory.
NJIT with four days off will return to action on Sunday at Delaware State. Tipoff is scheduled for 1pm.
