FAIRFIELD, CT – NJIT men's fencing competed at the Sacred Heart Tradition Tournament on Sunday.
The Highlanders faced NYU in the tournament falling 16-11.
Five fencers picked up two wins apiece.
Eduardo Ezcurra and
Ryan Hrapsky collected two wins each on the epee strip. Junior Ezcurra defeated Malcolm Lewis 5-1 and senior Hrapsky beat Alexandre Crepeaux 5-3, and both fencers were victorious over William Zhang.
Foil fencers
Simon Rizell and
Henrique Marques each picked up two wins of their own. Both Rizell and Marquez posted a win against Sean Grant and Philip Shin.
Greg Puccio was the only NJIT winner on the saber strip with another two wins. Sophomore Puccio defeated Quinton Burgunder and Grant Williams in identical 5-3 scores.
The Highlanders also competed against Sacred Heart, Harvard, Penn State and Vassar in the tournament defeating Sacred Heart 20-7 but falling to NYU and Harvard 16-11, Penn State 20-7 and Vassar 15-12.
Nicholas Concepcion went undefeated against Sacred Heart and Vassar posting a 6-0 record on the foil strip.
Ryan Hrapsky was the top performer for the epee squad, defeating NYU, Harvard and Sacred Heart and notching an 8-7 overall record.
On the saber strip,
Cole Degeorges went 3-0 against both Sacred Heart and Vassar tallying an 8-7 record overall, while
Robert Slawinski went 5-1 on the day.
The Highlanders will take a break until the New Year, when they head to Penn for the Philadelphia Invitational on January 21.
