SCRANTON, PA – The NJIT men's ice hockey team tied 3-3 in an overtime game with host Scranton on Saturday.
The Highlanders (6-5-1) combated injuries before and throughout the game, and the reserves battled to keep NJIT in the game.
The Knights struck first, however
Will Hoer was able to tie it for the Highlanders before the first period ended.
Scranton dominated the second, netting two goals and taking a 3-1 lead into the final period.
In the third period,
Alex Fleischmann scored an unassisted goal as he came back from the right boards and fired the puck into the net.
With less than 30 seconds to go in regulation time, NJIT had a 6-4 power play advantage after pulling goal keeper
Matthew Altomare and adding an extra attacker. The Highlanders capitalized on their advantage when
Yllano Tubilleja fed
Phil Lelikov to tie the game 3-3 and sending the game into overtime.
Each team would trade chances in overtime, but neither would score, leaving the final of the game 3-3.
Freshman Altomare made 40 saves in the game for the Highlanders.
