NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's hockey team lost to the Scranton 5-3 on Saturday at the Barnabas Health Hockey House.
The Royals win the season series over the Highlanders 1-0-1 in their first season in the Colonial States College Hockey Conference.
Michael Barrera got the scoring started for NJIT in the first minute for the early one-goal lead.
Scranton responded with two straight goals midway through the first period to give them the advantage.
Captain
Christopher Murphy tied the game at 2-2 with his tenth goal of the season. The Royals added a late goal to give themselves a 3-2 lead after the first intermission.
Scranton extended their lead with two more goals in the second, 5-3.
The Highlanders were not able to take advantage of some power play opportunities in the second and third periods.
Will Hoer scored what would be NJIT's last goal of the game, five minutes into the third.
Martin Paro made 31 saves for the Highlanders in the evening.
Next up, NJIT will host defending Colonial States College Hockey Conference Champions Princeton at the Barnabas Health Hockey House at 8:45pm on December 2.
