KENNESAW, GA—Kennesaw State improved to 7-0 in the ASUN Conference after, extending its win streak to 12 matches, topping, visiting NJIT, 3-0, in straight sets Saturday evening in the KSU Convocation Center.
The Owls (13-8, 7-0 in ASUN) won in straight sets – 25-15, 25-17 and 25-14 while the Highlanders still, searching for its first ASUN win in 2016, drops to 8-15 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
Kennesaw State's Lisel Engelbrecht led the match with a .611 hitting percentage with 11 kills, no errors on 18 attempts. Kelly Marcinek followed with eight kills, combing for a .389 hitting percentage with one error on 18 swings.
Setter Kristi Piedimonte paced the match with 29 assists while Katarina Morton recorded a match-best 15 digs for the Owls. Engelbrecht was the match leader with four blocks (all assists).
NJIT's
Mikalah Hughes notched a .750 hitting percentage with three kills on four attempts. Senior
Katarzyna Klocek combined for seven kills.
Freshman setter
Liz Benson piled up 22 assists and added five digs for the Highlanders. Defensively,
Olivia Welsch paced the Highlanders with nine digs.
Kennesaw State built an early lead in the first set, going up 11-5. The Owls kept, pushing, going ahead 16-8 and later 19-8, closing out the set 25-15.
The Owls opened the second set, taking an 11-3 lead. NJIT rallied back, pulling within five, 16-21, on a kill by
Tess Albyn. Kennesaw State used a 4-1 spurt to close out the frame, 25-17.
Kennesaw State got hot early, giving the home team a 13-3 advantage. The closest NJIT got was 10 late in the frame, 10-20, and the Owls cruised to a 25-14 victory to sweep the match.
NJIT will return to action when the Highlanders host USC Upstate on October 22 at 1pm followed by a non-conference matchup a day later, against Marist at 1pm. Both matches will be played in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
