SANTA BARBARA, CA—Cal State University Northridge improved to 4-0 on the season as the Matadors swept NJIT, 3-0, to conclude the 2016 UCSB Asics Invitational Saturday at Rob Gym.
Cal State Northridge won the first two sets by identical scores, 25-21, and won the deciding set, 25-23, to earn the victory. NJIT dropped to 0-3 on the young season.
Matadors junior outside hitter Jakub Ciesla recorded a match-best 13 kills for a .333 hitting percentage while freshman Dimitar Kalchev added 10 kills on 15 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage.
Setter Sam Porter registered 32 assists while libero CJ Suarez led the Matadors defensively with 8 digs. Eric Chance paced Cal State Northridge in front of the net with 5 block assists followed by Ciesla's 4 block assists.
Cal State Northridge held a 9-to-2 service ace advantage paced by Kalchev's 4 aces.

TJ Jurko had a team-best 11 kills while hitting .429 for the Highlanders. Redshirt sophomore
Raymond Kowalski added 7 kills.
Sophomore setter
Cameron Tait piled up 22 assists while 6-foot-8 middle
Luke Robbe led the Highlanders with 4block assists.
NJIT will break and return to action on January 22 when the Highlanders host Marymount in the Fleisher Athletic Center at 4pm.
