Ky Howard is NJIT's All-Time D1 Career Assist Leader

Senior Point Guard Earned his 331st Helper at Yale to Pass Chris Flores '13

NEW HAVEN, CT-- Highlanders senior point guard Ky Howard has become NJIT's all-time, Division-I career assist leader, as his 331 helpers have moved him past Chris Flores '13 (330) to the top of the list. His total also ranks first among all active Atlantic Sun Conference players.

The Philadelphia native recorded the assist by triggering an in-bounds pass beyond the perimeter to an open Damon Lynn, who successfully converted a three-point attempt with 10:43 remaining in the game at Yale on Wednesday. Howard, who entered the contest with 327 career assists, dished out four for the evening along with 10 points, a rebound and a steal.

Currently, Howard ranks fifth in the A-Sun this season with 69 assists -- a total that places him 74th among all NCAA Division-I men's basketball players. He also holds the NJIT single-game assist record of 11, set on Dec. 23, 2014,
at #7 Villanova (ironically, against a Wildcats team for which his brother, Ashley, serves as an assistant coach). The business management major set the season assist record with 105 in 2013-14, a mark that was toppled by teammate Damon Lynn's 123 the following year (2014-15).

In the school's all-time records, which span back to 1922 and include NJIT's pre-NCAA program along with its Division I, II and III eras, Howard ranks sixth behind leader Lance Andrews '93 (611). He is two helpers shy of passing NJIT's all-time leading scorer Clarence Pierce '96 (332) and into the Top 5 overall.

Howard's father, Maurice, is widely regarded as one of the best players ever in the Philadelphia Catholic League. "Mo" later played his college ball at Maryland and was a second-round pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1976 NBA draft.

The Highlanders (9-7) return home on Saturday, Jan. 9, to play in their first-ever game as a member of the A-Sun. The contest, which is the back end of a women's/men's doubleheader against USC Upstate (6-11), is scheduled for 4 pm. NJIT has never before played any of the other seven A-Sun teams in men's basketball.
