BROOKLYN, NY – The NJIT men's swimming & diving team placed first in eight out of the 13 events they competed in against St. Francis Brooklyn and Manhattan in a tri-meet on Sunday.
The Highlanders defeated host St. Francis Brooklyn 142-92 and Manhattan 155-79, and now hold a 5-6 record on the season.
The Highlanders placed first in both relay events, the 200 medley and 200 free. In the 200 medley relay, sophomores
Scott Quirie and
Collin Moore and seniors
Richard Seffrin and
Brian Capozzola finished in 1:38.54. The 200 free relay team consisting of juniors
Michael Sungurov and
Maxim Tillman, freshman
Edward Parks and senior
Christian Giglio swam with a time of 1:29.10.
In the 100 breast senior
Jonathan Drori placed first with a time of 1:01.91 while Seffrin came in second swimming in 1:02.40. Seffrin also placed second in the 1000 free finishing in 10:03.06.
Sungurov swam the 200 free in 1:47.46 good for a first place finish, and placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.21.
In the 200 IM Quirie and Moore finished first and second, Quirie swimming in 1:58.67 and Moore in 2:01.09.
Adding two more first place finishes was Capozzola who placed first in the 50 free (21:07) and the 100 free (46.42).
During the 200 back Giglio swam in 53.27 good enough for first place while Quirie placed second with a time of 55.23.
Moore finished second in the 100 fly swimming in 52.87, which was .58 tenths of a second behind the first place time, while Parks finished behind him in third place with a time of 53.99.
Junior
Joseph Pedo scored 137.21 points in the 1-meter dive good enough for third place, while freshman
Blake Rader placed third in the 3-meter dive tallying 124.60 total points.
The CCSA Championships are up next for the Highlanders, which will take place February 17-20 in Athens, GA.
