SOUTH BEND, IN – NJIT men's and women's fencing competed at the DeCicco Duals hosted by Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Highlander men finished the day with a 5-1 record, with victories over Sacred Heart (14-13), Lawrence (20-7), Florida (17-10), Detroit Mercy (21-6), and Wayne State (24-3), with their only loss coming from host Notre Dame (8-19).
The women recorded a record of 1-5 on the day, with the win coming against Detroit Mercy (17-9).
For the men on the foil strip, junior
David Kong went undefeated against Lawrence and Wayne State and finished the day with an 8-3 record. Freshman
Nicholas Concepcion compiled an 11-4 overall record, while going 3-0 against Detroit Mercy and 2-0 against Wayne State.
Sophomore
Gal Gluhic finished 8-2 on the epee strip, going undefeated against Lawrence, while senior
Ian Constantin recorded a 7-2 overall record on the epee strip, while going undefeated against Florida.
On the saber strip, freshman
Greg Puccio went undefeated against Sacred Heart and Lawrence while posting a 12-4 overall record.
On the women's side, sophomore
Jule Shigihara tallied a 16-1 overall record on the foil strip while going undefeated against Sacred Heart, Lawrence, Florida, Notre Dame and Detroit Mercy.
Freshman
Maria Sztan recorded an 11-4 overall record on the epee strip going 3-0 against Lawrence, Florda, and Wayne State.
NJIT men's and women's fencing will travel to Philadelphia to compete in the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday January 23 through Sunday January 24.
