WEST HARTFORD, CT—A bit of bad luck, an own goal in the 77
th minute sent the NJIT women's soccer team to a 1-0 loss at Hartford on Thursday night at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
Hartford picked up its third win in a row, improving to 4-1, while the Highlanders drop to 2-4 on the season.
Junior Hawks goalkeeper Jessica Jurg recorded her third consecutive shutout with the win against the Highlanders, making two saves for the clean sheet.
The overall shots and corner kicks favored Hartford, 29-6, and, 8-1.
NJIT senior goalkeeper
Samantha Bersett collected a season-high 11 saves in the contest. Bersett made an exceptional save in the 64
th minute on a shot by Hartford's Elise Galipo from 40 yards out, punching out the shot, after the ball bounced off the crossbar.

Arianna Gerber recorded four of the Highlanders' six shots, two of which were on goal. Senior
Abi Fakolujo and junior
Dana Schules each got off a shot. Schules connected on a header off a corner kick by
Madeline Griep in the final minute, but the shot sailed high.
NJIT will resume play on Sunday, September 13, when the Highlanders host Rider at 1pm on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The Broncs edged NJIT, 2-1 in double overtime last September 14, in Lawrenceville.
