RICHMOND, VA - NJIT men's lacrosse fell to Richmond 21-3 Monday afternoon at V. Earl Dickinson Field.

The Spiders, who got votes in the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USISLA) national poll this week, are 6-3 following Monday's victory, while NJIT, in its first season of varsity competition. falls to 0-7.

Richmond, which got its 21 goals from 12 different players, was paced by Mickey Hofmeister's four goals, with three from apiece from Alex Hatem and Brad Burnam , plus two each for JP Forester and Jon Magnusson.

Tyler Baggett scored twice for the Highlanders and
Joe Lomeli added one, raising his team-leading total of goals to 10. Baggett is second on NJIT with 7 goals this season.

Victorious Richmond used three goalkeepers, with starter Benny Pugh earning the win after playing the entire first half and making 7 saves. Dan Katzman played the third quarter and Henry Bonagurio played the fourth quarter. Each Spider goalie allowed one goal.

For NJIT, freshman
Nick Marzullo who played all but the last seven minutes and recorded seven saves, while freshman
Joshua Solomon finished up and posted his first college save in two relief appearances. had one save for his first save of the season. Marzullo was tagged with all of the Richmond goals.

The Spiders shut tout the Highlanders in the first quarter, 6-0, topped by a goal and two assists by the senior Hofmeister and two goals by Brad Burnam, a junior.

Hofmeister and freshman Eric Haehl opened up the scoring for Richmond in the second quarter, and NJIT retaliated with its first goal of the game by Baggett at 7:09. The Spiders would add on six more goals in the second quarter to lead 14-1 going into halftime.

The Highlanders were the first to score in the third quarter with another goal by Baggett. Richmond answered, rounding out the quarter with another four goals and an 18-2 advantage after three periods.

In the fourth and final quarter, Lomeli scored his goal, assisted by
Gabe Giovanello in the tenth minute.

The Highlanders, who have played their last two games on the road are back on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium on Saturday at noon against Wagner.
