ROCK HILL, SC—Appalachian State nipped visiting NJIT, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in men's tennis action on the campus of Winthrop at Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders, who dropped their third consecutive match, are now 4-3 on the season, while Appalachian State improves to an even 4-4.
NJIT and the Appalachian State split the singles contests, but it was the Mountaineers who earned the victory by taking two of three doubles contests to pick up the doubles point for a 4-3 win.
Highlander
Markus Schultz was a straight-set winner at first singles, defeating Oliver Casey, 6-4, 6-2.
Junior
Andres Alban recorded a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the second spot for NJIT, 6-3, 6-1 over Jack Maddocks.
Sophomore
Arnaud Holl was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at third singles, combining for a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Zach Bost.
Highlander duo Alban and
Jan Cimrman recorded a 6-4 victory at second doubles over Maddocks and Scott Webster.
NJIT will conclude its South Carolina trip on Sunday at 11am when the Highlanders face Winthrop.
