Vermont Comes Back Late for 54-46 Victory

Post Game Interview

NEWARK, NJ—
Junior guard Alana Dudley scored 11 points and junior forward Leah Horton added 10, but it went for naught, as Vermont came-from-behind in the fourth quarter to topple NJIT, 54-46, in women's basketball action at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center Sunday afternoon.

Vermont (4-6) received 15 points from Andreana Thomas and 14 points from Kylie Atwood, including a crucial 3-pointer with 42 seconds remaining in the game.

The Highlanders (3-7) seemingly took command of the game with a 14-6 second quarter, thanks to seven points off the bench from sophomore guard Bianca Picard, who made all three of her attempts from the floor.

NJIT led, 33-23, at the half, with Picard leading the way with eight points. Junior guard Olivia Dudley matched sister Alana's output, as both sisters tossed in seven points at the half.

The Catamounts crawled back into the game with a 15-7 third quarter, as seven different players scored. Sophomore forward Rachel Merrill led the way with four points.

Vermont managed to take a 44-42 lead on a driving left-handed scoop shot from Candice Wright with less than 5:30 remaining in the contest.

After NJIT's Alana Dudley tied the game at 44 with a reverse layup, but the Catamounts answered, scoring the next two baskets to take a 48-44 lead with 2:24 left to go.

Highlanders Alana Dudley added a driving layup with 1:58 left to slice Vermont's lead to 48-46, but Atwood delivered the crushing basket, a 3-pointer from 22 feet with 37 seconds remaining, giving the Catamounts their biggest lead of the game at 51-46.

NJIT junior guard Camerin Spahn had a strong all-around game, scoring six points and collecting a team-high eight rebounds.
