PHILADELPHIA – NJIT men's and women's fencing competed at the Elite Penn Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The Highlander men faced four top 10 teams in No. 1 Columbia, No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Princeton, and No. 8 Penn.
NJIT's only win of the day came in 14-13 victory over conference rival and 2015 MACFA conference champion Johns Hopkins. Freshman
Tristan Decker and the Highlander epee squad were a big part of the Highlanders win. Decker went 3-0 against the Blue Jays.
Sophomore
Simon Rizell went 3-0 against John Hopkins and 8-7 overall and freshman
Greg Puccio was undefeated against Columbia and finished 8-7 for the day for NJIT.
The NJIT women played No. 3 Notre Dame, No. 4 Princeton, No. 8 Penn ,and Temple. Even though the Highlanders were unable to come up with a team win, the epee squad won NJIT's first victory in program history over Temple.
Sophomore
Julia Garcia was the top performer for NJIT, and was 3-0 against Temple and Penn, and 8- 4 overall.
On November 22, men's fencing will head to Hunter and participate in the MACFA B vs C and women's fencing will continue at the Elite Penn Invitational.
